Work comment
According to Hedwall (p. 37), Alfvén studied conducting in Dresden for Hofkapellmeister Hermann Kutzschbach season 1901-1902. There, he composed a 'Serenade på mammas födelsedag', dated Dresden, January 1902. It is quite possible that he returned to Sweden in time for his mother Lotten's 61st birthday on 1st February.
