Work comment

In The Lonely One, a single violin becomes a storyteller. Written after the orchestral work The Threat of War, it turns towards an intimate drama shaped by melody, rhythm and harmony. Sighing glissandi lead from searching uncertainty to sharper, more determined gestures. A mysterious central section builds towards a high D before the music returns, transformed, to its opening material and gradually fades away.

Recording: Dr Caligari, C-Y contemporary, 2007. Björn Kleiman, violin.
