Work comment
Day and Night explores sharply contrasting characters. An energetic opening riff gives way to freer, unpredictable passages featuring the horn's natural harmonics. After an almost complete standstill, the pulse returns before dissolving into a nocturne. Muted horn lines rise and fade, evoking two musicians playing on after the last guests have left a party.
